The room stays quiet except for the low, steady hum and the soft scrape of paper as the artist checks a reference sketch pinned to the wall. Okami Tattoo opened its doors on Route 23 with the belief that a tattoo should read like a page from the wearer’s life, not a decoration chosen from a wall. Each of the five resident artists keeps a separate station, each with its own light, music, and collection of reference books. Rob works almost entirely in blackwork; Jennylynn favors delicate memorial scripts that still hold their edge after years of sun. No appointment is rushed. The first meeting lasts as long as it needs to, sometimes two hours, while the design is adjusted until the client feels the line belongs to them. The result is a body of work that clients return to photograph years later, the ink still crisp, the memory still exact.
Custom blackwork and fine-line tattoos form the studio’s backbone, each piece drawn from client photographs, family crests, or fragments of poetry. Larger pieces require multiple sittings scheduled weeks apart so the skin can heal between layers of shading. Memorial and matching designs receive extra time for consultation so the symbolism feels true rather than borrowed. Color work stays selective—muted earth tones, deep reds, or single accents chosen to sit against the client’s skin tone rather than compete with it. Touch-ups for existing tattoos are booked on slower afternoons, allowing the artist to study how the original ink has aged. Every client leaves with printed after-care instructions tailored to the size and placement of the new piece.

Most clients reserve their first consultation four to six weeks ahead. Larger projects that require multiple sittings are scheduled with gaps of at least three weeks between sessions.
Walk-ins are accepted only on weekday afternoons when an artist’s schedule is clear. For anything larger than a palm-sized design, a booked consultation is required.
Blackwork, fine line, and restrained color palettes are the dominant approaches. Each artist also keeps a small body of flash for those who prefer to choose rather than commission.
Clients must be at least eighteen years old with valid government-issued photo ID. Parental consent is not accepted for tattoo services.
Eat a full meal, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol the night before. Wear clothing that allows easy access to the placement area and bring any reference images you want incorporated.
